Body Lift
A body lift treats loose skin and tissue on the abdomen and buttocks. Most candidates for this procedure have experienced major weight loss, leading to problems with loose skin. Through removal of the apron of loose skin covering the lower body, Dr. Feledy can improve your figure and put the finishing touch on your weight loss efforts.
The body lift is one of many procedures performed during body contouring after major weight loss. Men and women who undergo body lift surgery typically need skin removed from areas such as the abdomen, back, hips, thighs and butt. If you're considering a body lift, you should be at a stable body weight, in generally good health, and be highly motivated to improve your appearance.
FAQ About Body Lift
The following are some common questions about body lift surgery. If you need additional information, feel free to contact Belmont Plastic Surgery in Chevy Chase today.
What areas of the body are treated?
During your body lift, Dr. Feledy may treat 1) the abdominal area, locally or extending around the sides and into the lower back area, 2) the buttocks, that may be low, flat or shaped unevenly, 3) the groin that may sag into the inner thigh, and 4) the inner or outer thighs.
How does a body lift work?
Body lift surgery procedures combine techniques from the tummy tuck and the butt lift. Dr. Feldedy works in a circumferential manner around the lower body, removing the apron of loose skin and tissue. The incisions are placed within natural skin folds, which often allows post-surgical scars to be well hidden. Dr. Feledy may choose to combine the body lift with liposuction to remove small areas of excess fat.
What happens after a body lift?
Patients are typically on bed rest for 24 hours after surgery. They are encouraged to walk (with assistance) on the second day. A thin tube will be in place to prevent fluid accumulation, which is removed in 7 days. After 4-6 weeks, the patient can return to a normal routine. The doctor will provide more specific steps about your recovery from body lift surgery.
What are the risks of the body lift?
Risks include scarring, bleeding, infection, fluid accumulation, poor wound healing, skin loss, blood clots, numbness or other changes in skin sensation, anesthesia risks, skin discoloration and/or prolonged swelling, fatty tissue found deep in the skin might die (fat necrosis), major wound separation, asymmetry, recurrent looseness of skin, pain, which may persist, deep vein thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications, persistent swelling in the legs, possibility of revisional surgery, sutures may spontaneously surface through the skin, become visible or produce irritation that require removal. Your consultation with Dr. Feledy will include a detailed discussion about the risks involved.
