FAQ About Facial Implants

Are facial implants right for me?

There are a variety of applications for facial implants. Some common problems that can be resolved through the use of facial implants include:

  • small or malformed chin
  • hollow or sunken cheeks
  • disproportion between the chin, cheeks, and other facial features

Patients should be generally healthy and have realistic expectations about surgical outcomes.

What happens during facial implant surgery?

Facial implants are usually employed while the patient is under general anesthesia. The procedure takes place in an outpatient setting and typically lasts between one and two hours. Dr. Feledy will make targeted incisions based on the location of the implant and the need to conceal visible scarring. These incisions can often be made inside the mouth. After the implants have been placed and positioned, Dr. Feledy willl close the incisions and apply surgical dressings.

What can I expect after the surgery?

Swelling, bruising, and discomfort can be alleviated through pain medication, while the risk of infection can be reduced through antibiotics. The sutures usually dissolve within 10 days of the surgery. Patients should expect to consume a soft or liquid diet for several days after the surgery.
