What are the steps of the Laser Hair Removal procedure?
Special goggles are given to the patient, and a topical anesthetic gel is applied to the area of treatment. A hand-held laser is pressed against the area, possibly with a cooling device or gel. There will be a stinging or slight burning sensation. The procedure takes somewhere between a few minutes and a couple of hours.
Who is an ideal candidate for Laser Hair Removal?
Though patients of all ages and skin types can be excellent candidates for laser hair removal, those with lighter skin and darker hair often experience the best results. This is due both to the success of the dark-pigmented hair at absorbing the laser and the contrast between the hair and skin tone.
What happens after the procedure?
Redness, swelling and pain may occur in the treated area for the first few hours after the procedure. Stinging may last for a few days, and may scab over. The area will be sensitive to sun for a few weeks, and should be protected with sunscreen and extra clothes.
Are there any side effects?
There are very few side effects relating to laser hair removal, with the most common including skin irritation, crusting, scabbing and changes in pigments. Very rarely there may be more significant side effects, such as scarring or blistering.
