Neck Lift
A neck lift is a surgical procedure designed to improve visible aging in the neck that may occur despite regular exercise and a healthy diet. A neck lift is a less intensive variation of a face lift and can be used to treat loose skin or fatty deposits under the chin, loss of muscle tone in the neck and jaw, as well as fallen or displaced fat and double chins. This procedure is often done in conjunction with other facial treatments including brow lift or eyelid surgery.
Neck lifts incisions are concealed within the natural folds of the face. They begin just in front of the ear lobe, wrap around the ear and enter the lower scalp. Following the healing process, the incision lines are almost completely camouflaged by the natural lines of the ear, jaw and hair. Additional procedures are often performed in conjunction with neck lift surgery, including facial implants, soft tissue augmentation, skin resurfacing techniques and wrinkle reduction injections.
FAQ About Neck Lift
What are the steps of the Neck Lift procedure?
The first step of the neck lift procedure is the administration of either a sedative or general anesthetic to ensure patient comfort. An incision is then made in front of the ear lobe and continues around the ear into the hair line. The fat underneath the skin is sculpted and repositioned, and tissues underneath are adjusted for optimal contour. The skin is redraped over the treated area and any excess skin is removed. Incisions are closed with sutures or skin adhesives.
Who is an ideal candidate for Neck Lift?
Neck lifts are an excellent choice for patients who would like a longer-lasting effect than most non-invasive procedures can provide. The ideal patient is physically healthy, a non-smoker, and is informed about all aspects of the procedure, recovery and possible outcomes.
What happens after the procedure?
Immediately following the procedure, a bandage will be placed over the treated area to minimize any swelling or bruising. A tube may be added if necessary to drain any excess fluids during the recovery. Iit may take a few months for swelling to disappear completely and up to six months for the the incision lines to fade. The results should be long-lasting, particularly when combined with healthy diet and exercise. Avoiding excess sun exposure can help maintain long term results as well.
Are there any side effects?
As with any surgical procedure, neck lifts present a degree of risk which may include unfavorable scarring, bleeding and poor wound healing, facial asymmetry, skin loss, numbness, or undesirable outcome. These potential risks will be discussed in-depth during your consulation with Dr. Feledy.
