Neck Lift Surgery
What is a neck lift?
A neck lift procedure is a cosmetic surgery designed to improve the visible aging that can be common with neck skin and increasing fatty deposits in the area. An undesirable or aged neck appearance may occur and, despite regular exercise and a healthy diet, it may persist. Because of this change in the neck area as one ages, it is not uncommon for individuals to result to neck liposuction or a surgical improvement to the neck area to remove sagging skin and restore the neck to a more youthful look.
Why you may want a neck lift or “neck liposuction”?
A neck lift is a far less involved variation of a facelift. If you are interested in addressing the loose skin, unchanging fat deposits, loss of muscle tone, as well as fallen or displaced fat that can cause a “double chin”, you may want a neck lift. This procedure can be done in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures including a full facelift, brow lift or an eyelid lift.

Are you an ideal patient for a neck lift?
Neck lifts are an excellent choice for patients who would like a longer-lasting effect than most non-surgical procedures can provide. The ideal patient is physically healthy, a non-smoker, and is informed about all aspects of the procedure, recovery and possible outcomes. The vast majority of neck lift surgery are between 40 and 60 years old. If you are considering getting a neck lift, It is also important to have realistic expectations for the outcome of your procedure. It is also vital to notify Dr. Feledy if you have high blood pressure, blood-clotting issues, or if you tend to form excessive scars.
Are there any side effects to a neck lift?
In doing a neck lift surgery there are risks and elements a patient needs to be aware of. Every surgical procedure has factors to consider. These potential risks will be discussed in-depth during your consultation with Dr. Feledy.
What does a neck lift procedure consist of?
This procedure will be performed while you are assisted with either a sedative or general anesthetic to ensure comfort. An incision will be made in front of the ear lobe that will continue around the ear into the hair line. The incisions are designed to be concealed within the natural folds of the face. The fat underneath the skin is sculpted and repositioned, and tissues underneath are adjusted for optimal contour. The skin is redraped over the treated area and any excess skin is removed. Incisions are closed with sutures or skin adhesives. Depending on the complexity of the procedure, it may take a few hours.
What happens after your procedure?
Directly following the neck lift surgery procedure, a bandage will be placed over the treated area to minimize any swelling or bruising. It is not unusual for a tube to be added as needed to drain any excess fluids during the recovery. It may take a few months for swelling to disappear completely and up to six months for the the neck lift incision lines to fade. Following the healing process, the incision lines are almost completely camouflaged by the natural lines of the ear, jaw and hair. The results should be long-lasting, particularly when combined with healthy diet and exercise. Avoiding excess sun exposure can help maintain long term results as well.
What are the typical results?
The surgical results will depend on the appearance you are trying to achieve combined with what is physically possible. This will be established prior to the surgery when you meet with Dr. Feledy. It will not stop the process of aging, of course, but can improve your overall look. Incisions are strategically placed so that any scarring that may occur will not normally be visible.
