Male Mommy Makeover Known as 'Daddy Do-Over'

A recently release article on The Wall Street Journal’s MarketWatch states that one of the recent plastic surgery trends among men is the combination of a male breast reduction and a tummy tuck. This combination of procedures is viewed as the male version of the mommy makeover and is known as a “daddy do-over.”

While men may not experience a direct physical change as a result of having a baby, it does become more difficult to stay in shape. The dramatic lifestyle changes of raising children can have a significant physical effect on men as well through stress and changes in routine. More and more men are turning to plastic surgery procedures to help them manage these changes along with diet and exercise.

Daddy Do-Over Procedure Gaining Popularity

Men are having more plastic surgery now than ever. In 2011, over 800,000 cosmetic procedures were performed on men, about 9% of the total. Many of these procedures were either of the two surgeries used in the Daddy Do-Over.

Male breast reduction is one of the two surgeries in the Daddy Do-Over. This procedure treats gynecomastia, or enlarged male breasts, a surprisingly common condition that affects up to 60% of the male population at some level. Over 18,000 of these surgeries were performed in 2011, and it is consistently one of the five most common cosmetic surgeries for men each year.

The tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is the other procedure involved in the Daddy Do-over. This procedure involves the removal of a band of fat and skin from around the stomach and the tightening of the abdominal wall. This procedure is far more popular in women, with women receiving over 95% of all tummy tuck procedures.

The tummy tuck is also a part of the standard mommy makeover procedure, which often also includes a breast lift or breast augmentation. Other procedures that may be a part of the mommy makeover include liposuction, labiaplasty and a thigh lift.
