What To Expect From Your Breast Augmentation in Chevy Chase

Are you preparing to undergo breast augmentation in Chevy Chase to enhance the shape or size of your breasts? It is completely normal to have some butterflies, but when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, breast augmentation is a completely safe and effective procedure.

Still, you are embarking on a life-changing journey, and probably want to know more about the actual procedure and your recovery. Whether you are just days away from surgery or still waiting to book your consultation, this blog is for you.

Will my breast augmentation surgery hurt?

During your surgery, you will be placed under general anesthesia throughout the hour-long procedure; you won’t feel a thing during the surgery itself. You will fall asleep and wake up with your new, fuller breasts. For the next several weeks after your surgery, you may experience some swelling and tenderness of your breasts. If this becomes problematic, you can call your plastic surgeon to ask about possible medications for managing any discomfort.

Will I have to spend the night in the hospital after my breast augmentation in Chevy Chase?

Most women are able to return home in the care of a loved one after their procedure, but your plastic surgeon may recommend spending the night in the hospital. It is important to have someone drive you home due to the lingering effects of the anesthesia used during your surgery. If you have a preference of where you spend your first night after surgery, you can speak with your plastic surgeon to discuss your options.

What should I be doing after my surgery to care for my breasts?

Your plastic surgeon will provide you with a detailed list of care instructions to help you as you heal. However, there are a few basic things that you will want to keep in mind:

  • Wear the surgical support bra or bandage that your surgeon provides in order to maintain pressure on your breasts to decrease swelling.
  • If you choose to use ice packs, make sure to wrap them in a towel before applying them to your skin.
  • Avoid still water (bath water, swimming pools, hot tubs, ocean, etc.) for at least two weeks, but showering is okay 24 hours after your breast augmentation.
  • Breast massage techniques may be recommended to avoid capsular contracture.

Remember, if you ever have any questions, your plastic surgeon is there to answer them. Never hesitate to call or email.

How long will it take before I can return to my normal routine?

Breast augmentation in Chevy Chase normally consists of a relatively short recovery period lasting just one to two days. You will need to limit your activity for a few days, but may return to work after about a week. Higher levels of activity and exercise may require a few more weeks of rest before you feel strong enough for them.
