Men and women all over the country are choosing to eliminate resistant pockets of fat with liposuction procedures, which, according to the 2018 National Plastic Surgery Statistics Report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, has led to the liposuction procedure ranking as the second most popular plastic surgery procedure in the nation. At Belmont Plastic Surgery, Dr. Jules Feledy, who is an award-winning aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon with a surgery center in Chevy Chase, Maryland, near Fredericksburg, Virginia, performs plastic surgery procedures to help individuals attain the physical characteristics and facial features they desire.
The Features They Desire
Dr. Feledy uses four different methods of liposuction to address fat pockets throughout the body and in certain areas of the face. One factor that determines the method of liposuction that he recommends for a patient is the area of the body being addressed.
The Right Fit For You
The ideal candidate for a liposuction procedure near Fredericksburg, Virginia, is at least 18 years old. He or she must have persistent pockets of fat in areas that do not respond well to diet and exercise. Additionally, a good candidate is within 20 percent of his or her ideal body weight, has maintained a relatively stable weight for at least six months and plans on staying at his or her current weight. Furthermore, candidates for any surgical procedure must avoid the use of products that contain nicotine for at least four weeks before and four weeks after their procedure.
Achieving New Appearance
Once a fat cell is removed, the body does not replace it, therefore, as long as an individual watches his or her diet and continues exercising, a liposuction procedure can serve as a permanent solution for these troublesome areas. That said, if the results are not maintained, the fat cells that remain in the treated areas can expand, resulting in the development of new pockets of fat.
After Dr. Feledy looks at your registration information, he will want to discuss any health issues you have (e.g., cardiac disease, hypertension, etc.) and/or previous surgical procedures. Please be prepared for a general examination of the areas you would like Dr. Feledy to address during your liposuction procedure. Being candid with the medical staff and Dr. Feledy about what you would like to accomplish is the only way that your desires can be brought to fruition.
Some patients choose to have lipoplasty in conjunction with other procedures, if this is something you are interested in, please feel free to ask questions about those procedures during this consultation. Dr. Feledy and his staff are happy to answer any questions that you have, needless to say, patients are never required to have the procedures they ask about. Furthermore, the topic will not be revisited by the staff or Dr. Jules Feledy because he never wants his patients to feel obligated to have a procedure.
Enhancing The Results
These plastic surgery procedures should not be considered a substitute for eating a healthy diet and implementing an exercise program, but instead as an effective body contouring tool to enhance the results attained through diet and exercise.
Target Areas
His Artistic Vision
During a suction-assisted lipectomy, Dr. Feledy uses his artistic vision, skill and experience to remove fat pockets. Removing these pockets of fat significantly improves the shape of a patient’s body. Once recovery is complete, the patient’s beautifully contoured body shape will be visible.
This innovative fat removal method allows Dr. Feledy to provide patients with a procedure that offers minimal trauma to the tissues surrounding the treatment area. This method can also be completed faster than the suction-assisted lipectomy can. Dr. Feledy uses the innovative PAL® LipoSculptor™ power-assisted device to remove fat from targeted areas. The PAL® LipoSculptor™ is specifically designed for fat removal and reduces the amount of force a surgeon has to use to remove the patient’s unwanted fat deposits.
This liposuction method uses ultrasonic waves to liquefy the fat. As the fat begins dissolving, a cannula is inserted through one of the tiny incisions. At this point, Dr. Feledy gently removes the excess fat via suction.
Besides removing stubborn fat pockets, this method is ideal for those who would like to smooth cellulite. Using this state-of-the-art method, Dr. Feledy can remove fat cells without damaging any of the surrounding tissues. The VASERlipo™ Method allows Dr. Feledy to be extremely precise. This precision makes it possible for him to provide his patients with the smooth, shapely results they desire. Moreover, the VASERlipo™ Method is the least aggressive liposuction technique available, which means that recovery time following this procedure is shorter than the time necessary after the other methods available (i.e., traditional, ultrasound assisted and the MicroAire Liposuction Procedure with the PAL® LipoSculptor™).
For more than three decades, this method has been used to remove stubborn fat deposits throughout the body and face. While performing this traditional procedure, Dr. Feledy utilizes a special solution that is designed to break up the fat in the areas he is treating. After creating several small incisions, Dr. Feledy places a cannula (i.e., thin, hollow tube) through one of the incisions and into the treatment area. This tube is connected to a specially-designed machine that removes the liquefied fat via suction. Once the fat has been removed, Dr. Jules Feledy closes the incisions.
The Best Results
Final results become evident once most of the swelling has subsided, which usually takes from three to four months. As long as the patient maintains his or her weight, the results achieved with these procedures are permanent.

The fat cells Dr. Feledy removes can be used to address areas of the body that the patient would like to be more voluminous. For example, after purifying the fat cells, Dr. Feledy can strategically inject these cells into the buttocks (i.e., a Brazilian Butt Lift [BBL]) and/or he can use them to increase the size of the patient’s breasts (i.e., a breast augmentation via autologous fat transfer). This purified fat can even be used to add volume to areas of the face that appear sunken in (e.g., the cheeks).
Men and women develop these pockets of resistant fat, however, the areas where these pockets develop varies based on the patient’s gender. Men typically accumulate excess fat in their abdominal area and lower back, whereas, women carry the most weight in their abdominal area, thighs, hips and buttocks.
All the liposuction procedures that are performed at Belmont Plastic Surgery are outpatient procedures. These liposuction procedures can last up to five hours. Since you are returning home directly after your procedure, and you are receiving general anesthesia, remember to bring a driver with you to the surgery center. Your driver will need to remain at the surgery center throughout your procedure. If a patient neglects to bring a driver, he or she will need to reschedule their procedure because Dr. Jules Feledy does not permit his patients to use any type of transportation service after procedures requiring sedation, general anesthesia or twilight anesthesia. Dr. Feledy implemented this policy to protect his patients.
Some of the most common symptoms patients experience after any liposuction procedure include bruising, swelling and/or skin rippling. Most patients are ready to return to their everyday activities within about a week; however, patients must refrain from performing strenuous exercises and participating in arduous physical activities until Dr. Jules Feledy releases them to do so. As time passes, the resulting scars will begin to fade. One of the most important factors in reducing the visibility of any surgical incision that will result in a scar is preventing it from being exposed to UV rays. This includes the rays from the sun and the UV bulbs used in a tanning bed. These rays should be avoided for at least a year or until the incision no longer appears pink.
Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, which means it causes the blood vessels to narrow (i.e., constrict). Once these vessels constrict, blood flow is either slowed or stopped completely. If blood cannot flow, the wounds created during a surgical procedure are unable to heal, unless the flow of blood begins again, tissue death (necrosis) is eminent. If blood flow is slowed, the healing process takes longer and puts the patient at a higher risk of experiencing some type of complication (e.g., an infection, blood clot formation, etc.).
When it comes to these fat-removal procedures, most of the possible complications relate to a patient’s final results. Open communication between the patient and Dr. Feledy is an essential factor in decreasing the likelihood of a patient experiencing results that do not reflect his or her desires.
Although the side effects listed below are rare, patients must consider them before deciding to have any of the liposuction procedures listed above.
One of the best ways to prevent experiencing a rare side effect or any type of complication is to choose a plastic surgeon who is board-certified and has experience performing the method of fat removal that you desire. Dr. Jules Feledy is an aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon with a surgery center located near Fredericksburg, Virginia. He is board-certified and has more than 15 years of experience performing a variety of plastic surgery procedures, including all four of the liposuction methods available at Belmont Plastic Surgery in Chevy Chase, Maryland. These methods include the traditional lipoplasty procedure, VASERlipo™, the ultrasound-assisted lipectomy, as well as the MicroAire method with the PAL® LipoSculptor™.
Unfortunately, these procedures are considered cosmetic, therefore, health insurance will not cover them. However, at Belmont Plastic Surgery, Dr. Jules Feledy has financing options available for his patients.
